this would have the potential to make a great server if done well - but the fuckton of lag that everybody else (even those not playing pirates in the real world) would get just mucks the idea every time.
personally, i think if you really like this idea, a completely separate server would be required - piratecraft anyone? :3

Well I wasn't really thinking of implementing it for Kiwike, that's why it's in the general Minecraft area. It's just a concept that I wanted to see if anyone else had heard of.
Clearly most people haven't.

Would the ships be like KiwiShips (moving blocks) or something like the Zeppelin mod (moving entities)?

kiwiships = copy and paste blocks every few
seconds.
zepplin mod = takes all the blocks and kinda turns them into one so you can turn smoothly and it's just epic. I'd post a video but im on my phone so just go to youtube and search zepplin mod.

Sounds more like the zeppelin mod, but with the ability to move "through" water blocks so the ships bottom can extend (somewhat) beneath the water and have a hull.

Using the zeppelin mod for something like this would require a major rewrite of how the game works.
