If the reason is (Revenge, war, ect.) you don't have to justify the kill to him in my opinion.

There are many ways to get revenge.
Oh, I don't care about revenge at all. I just want the random PvP back. But I suppose bloodthirsty psychosis isn't enough of a RP excuse to KOS.
