True. The release is set to 11/11/11. Same date as Skyrim IIRC. There will still be updates after that though, just most likely not as frequently.

Ya whoever told you this is either not very intelligent or was trying to troll you.
Once you buy it you have it forever the only difference between alpha and beta is the alpha buyers never have to pay for any DLCs or similar things (though I doubt they'll ever exist),
and beta buyers would have to pay for them

When the release of beta of Beta hapPened Notch announced that all future versions of Minecraft would have to be payed for unless you bought it in alpha.
