Oh, two reason I did that there.
First I was trying to find my way to where the mob-spawner was because people normally have a second set of chests by their spawners. I hadn't realized yet that the dividers in the front room with the essentially empty chests were actually covers for hidden staircases. So I was just heading generally in that direction and expected to find a hidden entrance beneath the floor or at least be able to tunnel my way towards the spawner until I found something.

The thing that really made the enchanting room suspicious though was the cobble floors which generally appear as if someone frequently removes and replaces those blocks, especially in a place with such pretty floors eveywhere else, so I was almost 100% positive that I had found a hidden entrance but instead it turned out to be hidden chests - which would have been better except that they were all locked and stuff...
