Wouldn't it be more interesting if different groups of people disagreed about how the world came to be, like in the real world.

While that may make sense when you compare it to the real world, I think that it will just cause confusion with new players. But, I think that I would be cool if the different groups had their own "folk-tales" on how things came to be.

Indeed, it is. So long as you fill those lost memories in eventually, of course. That would make for an interesting storyline.
