Religion - TehCthulhu - 08-28-2011

I was getting sick of the 20 post/second format of the religion discussion on OOC so I figured I would try to make a topic for it.

EDIT:
So I guess I should have had a post that would stimulate conversation:

I went to Catholic school for 12 years (which is probably why I am an Atheist now) so I would like to think I have a handle on basic beliefs/practices of the religion. So if you have any questions about Catholicism *cough* Cerce *cough*, I will do my best to answer them.

I also think it should be mentioned that if you (yes, you) don't want to embarrass yourself, you should probably be respectful of the beliefs of others and make some attempt at objectivity in your posts. I did not create this as a opportunity for people to directly mock each other and act like children.

Thank you.

Mod edit: Any hate toward someone else's belief and this thread will be locked. Keep it a mature discussion

I believe it is against the forum rules to discuss religion, due to the volatile nature of such arguments.

RE: Religion - Cerce - 08-28-2011

Oh.... I was just wondering some stuff about Catholicism, and how it differs from Pentacostals. There's bad rumors about both in their own respective sects. Ex: 'Catholics are idol worshipers - they pray to people instead of God!' or 'Pentacostals always just put up a show with the speaking in toungues - it's all giberish!'
But, then again, I can see how this could escalate...

The Official Kiwike Rules
Forum rules

1) Don't spam the smilies. One or two per post is enough

2) Try to avoid one word posts or posts with "funny pictures". It's ok to post a meme picture once in a while, but don't over-do it. It just gets annoying, especially when the picture isn't even related to the thread.

3) Search first. Don't post new threads when there is already one thread about the same thing.

4) Do not necro post. Unless it is for a good reason. Don't go posting in old threads and just say "lol that picture was funny". If you feel like you have something to add to the thread, you are free to do so.

5) Accurate thread titles. People want to know what they are looking for.

6) Use decent grammar. Alright, I know English might not be your native language but do not post things like "i lyk this pic a lot lololol its fun". At least try.

7) Stay on topic! Don't start a discussion on something completely irrelevant. Rather make a new thread instead.

Cool Do not advertise or discuss other servers. Pretty self-explaining. Go to Minecraft forums if you want to do that.

BAM!

Hm, maybe he removed the rule. Nevertheless, I'd suggest instant locking on this thread the second someone starts raging about someones religion...

RE: Religion - yottabyte - 08-28-2011

As long as you don't talk crap about other religions, I don't see why this can't be here.

The Saints are viewed as a conduit to God: if you have a problem for which there is a patron saint you pray to the saint asking them to pray to God on your behalf, you don't ask them to come down and do anything personally, you just ask for their help in asking for help.

I think (this is mostly my opinion, but let me know what you think) the saints, as they are, are a relic taken from polytheistic religions as Catholicism was spreading to pagan Europe. The newer branches of Christianity have gotten rid of most of the pagan traditions that the early church took on, but Catholicism retains quite a few. Also worth mentioning is when, in the Dark Ages, sainthood (like many things within the church) was something that could simply be purchased. I assume this cemented the Saints as an integral part of the religion because it was such a large source of wealth at the time.

If god can do anything can he make a rock that is too big for himself to carry?
If christianity has one god then how come there is the son, god and the holy spirit (and jesus talks to god, so none of that they are the same thing unless jesus is crazy)
How come there was a religion that was before christianity that is nearly identical, including a virgin mother?
If christians are so against gay rights then do they also wash one of their hands before the other? because that is next to it in the bible.
I grew up christian and realized that it is just a continuous indoctorination of children over and over again.

RE: Religion - Android - 08-29-2011

It's the Holy Trinity, thus proving 'God works in many way'. The Father, God, the Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It's open to everyone for interpretation, another reason the Bible is so curious.

I'm Christian Catholic, I don't find that every single thing in the bible happened exactly the way it was mentioned, but instead of being a doubter, I interpret it my own way, getting what I want from it.
