Character Bio - Roland Nai - BlueScope - 08-15-2012

Hello intrepid travellers, my name is BlueScope and in this presentation of the fabulous feature film "Kiwike: A Doctor's Tale" I will be playing Roland Nai.

Roland is a character I have used several times, and his story has carried me across two different post-apocolyptic RP servers. In the past I have set him up as a genetic engineer, but I feel the same basic character traits of a will to aquire knowlege, experiment, and dominate remain the same. This is his story.

I will update this post as I see fit, adding to his story as it happens.

Before Kiwiki
Roland Nai was born in a small, isolated village. His father was the town's only doctor, and an important member in the community. One fine day, a woman was brought into his hut, suffering bite wounds from an unknown creature. He treated the woman, and found that she was a sorceress of mediocre talent. As he treated her, they grew close, and married. Roland was born on a rainy day, the weather forshadowing his dismal future.
From an early age, Roland showed interest in the art of magic, and was trained by his father as a physican. It didn't take long to put two and two together. Roland wasn't interested much in the actual healing process, the real attraction was in the functions of the body. Why did this man's appendix explode, and this man's was healthy? Why did this travelling elf have a greater resistance to deasise than a human in his village?
Roland's talent as a magician bloomed upon the discovery of a simple spell, but one with infinite permutations. The spell of changing life became his mistress. Though he found that it required a fair amount of magical energy to perform even the simplest spell (Requring a magic circle to focus the energy, and occasionally a pricey ingrediant.), he was none the less enchanted. The villagers started to notice rather strange, but harmless, creatures around the village. Birds with the legs of spiders, but no wings, rats with the huge eyes of owls.
Things took a turn for the worse when Roland turned 26, his mother on her deathbed. Her leg was being eaten away by infection, the seeds of which were likely planted all those years ago by the monster that bit her. He decided to use his talent to take action.
He purchased a simple potion to make her sleep from a passing trader, and began his work.
He dragged her limp body to a magic circle of his own design, placing her decaying limb into one part of the circle, a few nuggets of gold in the center, and on the other side... the hind limb of a recently deceased dog.
He watched with a mix of horror and fascination as the limb of the dog severed, and stretched to human proportions, and the leg of his mother turn to ash. The nuggets of gold in the center of the circle burst into flame, consumed by the intense concentration of magic they were designed to channel.
The result was not recieved well by the people of the town. His mother was killed, and Roland fled, fearing for his life.
He spent the next few years of his life drifting, settling down in a strange desert for a time, where he found his skill could be marketed.
The people of this strange desert were decidedly less pickey about those who inhabited their land. Walking along a desert rode one day, Roland came upon a man combatting a scorpion of monsterous proportions. He hid beind a large boulder, knowing that he was far too unskilled in the art of swordplay to even begin to assist the man. The man won out against beast, but in its' death throes, the scorpion's claw severed the man's arm. He quickly feinted from the shock. Roland looked from the scorpion to the man, and back again. He knew what he had to do.
Using the man's sword, he cut off the claw that had claimed the man's arm, and drug the man back to his home. Using his last few gold nuggets, he hastily constructed a magic circle, and created another monster.
Far from being upset, the man was delighted with his new appendage, and upon finding out the power of the scorpion's claw, he paid Roland a small sum of gold.
Roland held the gold in his hand, smiling. He had found his place in the world.
He spent the next few years performing similar procedures. The shell of a the scorpion proving, when the proper magic was applied, to make a mighty armor for a customer, albiet a piece of armor he could never take off. The fangs of a desert snake, the nose of a cayote.
All was well for a time, until a rival tribe killed the more accepting peoples of his adopted village. Despite the numerous magics of change he had applied to his people, they were overwhelmed by sheer mass. The rival tribe viewed them as monsters, and Roland has their creator. Again, he was forced to flee, to a land he knew little about.
Kiwike.

OOC Information

Alignment: Neutral Neutral (True Neutral)
Roland is out for number one, but that doesn't make him a bad man. If he believes that helping someone will result in a greater benifit, he won''t hesitate to lend a hand. However, the same is true if he feels he could do without someone.

Personality:
Roland can be characterized by two primary character traits, intelligence and charisma. His long studies into the sumblime art of magic, compounded by his father's training as a healer have provided for him a unquie insight. Just as having to convince hostile tribal leaders that magical modification really is in your best intrest, and you should pay him to do them, has helped him develop a charming personality.

Character Motivations:
Beyond advancing his own knowlege and power, Roland has long observed the long life of the elves, and desired it. He seeks nothing less than immortality, at any cost.

Factions:
None at the moment, still exploring and getting a firm grasp on the world of Kiwike and its politics.

I'm with Android on this.

Also; there seems to be a lot of Fallout roleplayers coming over... Something going on over at the other server? I still don't know what this major influx with good RPers is about.

RE: Character Bio - Roland Nai - Cerce - 08-30-2012

Well, I must say, early on when I was reading some of the apps, I was bracing myself for an influx of new players.

But now, it's almost like they fit right. My congratulations and thanks to the new members of Kiwike for making this server even better, without introducing completely foreign ideas (or just bad ones).
