I don't know if this is already a thing but I personally would like it if we could hook the forum up to our phones to send us a text when a new thread is made, and when someone responds on a thread we have commented on.

You can get email notifications I'm pretty sure - just look around. Set up email notifications on your phone and there.

At the bottom there is the option to "Subscribe to this thread" which sends email notifications whenever a post is made on the thread. Of course that's not texting, but if you get notifications on your phone every time you get an email it's pretty close.
