Test server map - yottabyte - 12-29-2010
I can't get on minecraft atm but I still wanted to see how the map looks like... so I rendered a map of the test server! Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Thanks Yotta, I think I can see my house. Now, how exactly did you make this map? And on a side note, would it be possible for me to make own map without the help of an admin? Just to have for my purposes.

No, you cannot render a map yourself. There is a client sided mod though, called Zan's Minimap and it is very helpful. Not using it myself atm, but I have used it earlier. I use Zan's Mini-Map, as you can see in my screenshots in the Droidopolis thread. Very cool mod. I especially like how you can set waypoints that show as a flag when your map is in range of them and as a green arrow on the edge of it when it is out of range. You can also make it show a nearly full-screen map of a large par tof your surroundings. I recommmend it for everyone.

It certainly is. Those screenshots I posted in the Droidopolis thread showed me using the mini-map and that was on my personal SMP server.
Apparently it now even has functionality where the server admins can create way points for the server. Anyone that has Zan's Mod would then be able to see those way points when they log on to the server.
