Friends,

I have been scouring through old hard drives looking for old Kiwike data. This great quest lasted for days, but now the dust is settling.

There are both good and bad news. The good news is that we have backups of a lot of old worlds. I currently count 8 separate Kiwike worlds, ranging from 2010 to 2015.

The bad news? Well, our most popular worlds don't have very good backups. The latest Kiwike 2.0 backup I am able to locate is dated July 2011. For the record, Kiwike 2.0 spanned May 2011 - January 2012. That means a lot of 2.0 history is gone. However, the big cities can all essentially be located in the May backup. The Grand, not so much.

Even worse, the only copy I have of Kiwike: Revamped is apparently badly corrupted. I'm only able to recover ~half of the world. If your memories are intact, you're in luck.

I will make separate posts for each world backup in this thread, with a brief description and a download link.

Feel free to share anything fun or interesting you might find in the backups in this thread.

We have touched up and brought back Territories and a basic economy system. This allows for a basic kind of protection for everyone. The tutorial for territories and economy is found on the main website. Same commands still apply.

We did change some numbers. Creating a town is pretty cheap now, at 64 gold. Claiming a chunk (16x16 area) is a bit more expensive though, at 32 blocks per chunk. This allows for pretty much everyone to have some kind of basic protection in smaller section, rather than huge cities.
Hey everyone! Today is November 10th again. It's been three years since the first Kiwike server was launched. Unfortunately, unlike a year ago, I can't say that the Minecraft server has been running 24/7 since then, but it's over 95% uptime I believe.

Let's go on a nostalgia trip:

Quote:November 2010:
Kiwike launches the first Alpha server, it is really terrible and people are duplicating items everywhere, building houses out of diamond blocks etc. The server is completely vanilla.

December 2010:
After having a bit of a player spike around the start of the server, the server quiets down. We receive our first donation: The player Erooock is kind enough to donate $10 to the server. Server resets quite a lot because of griefers and dupers.

~December 15, 2010:
Kiwike 1.0 launches as Minecraft moves into beta. The server is running WorldEdit and Towny for some basic protection. There's also auctions, iConomy and shops. Item duplication still works for the first week of the server, something that a lot of players abuse unfortunately. Also, Magic carpet.

January 9, 2011:
Lag is getting really bad as the player count increases and our 1 GB RAM server can't handle it very well. After a bit of trouble we move to a new server, and during the downtime chat with players we decide that a new map is due. Bukkit is up and coming and we decide to be one of the first public servers running Bukkit. Meet Kiwike 1.5.

April 2011:
After months of work, the new Kiwike server is ready to launch. Some would say that it's still the most successfull server, and a lot of awesome things happened. The Grand war and the wedding are probably the most significant events.

August 2011:
KiwiShips is released, something that truly made Kiwike unique (and laggy). This plugin was actually planned for a huge update to get player numbers up, but we decided to release it on 2.0 to test it out. The huge update turned into a future project instead..

January 2012:
After being in planning stages behind the scenes for a few months, Kiwike: Revamped is announced and the beta testing starts.

March 31, 2012:
Kiwike: Revamped is finally released and everyone is happy. New world, new plugins, new people.

October 2012:
Revamped activity is starting to fall due to problems with hardcore roleplayers and casual roleplayers. The fact that the wars and the third age are pretty much on ice as the staff works on figuring out how to best deal with them also contributes to the falling player counts.

We decide to stop Revamped and start over on a clean slate, going towards the PvP aspect instead of hardcore roleplay. New Kiwike happens (yes, the name was a parody on the New iPad).

2013:
Dunno really. New Kiwike is shut down due to amazing inactivity and a new world is started. Shades of Crazy trilogy is written. Map resets a couple of times.

And then of course, the future of Kiwike. What do guys? Both forums and server have been really inactive recently.

You reckon we should start a new world once again? I want to try the amplified terrain generation. I would also like to have storage protection, because hiding your stuff is way too much effort.

Anyway, happy birthday Kiwike.
The server is finally running 1.6.4. I think the world is prepared to be future safe when 1.7 is released.

You might have noticed a lack of players in the past six weeks or so. People seem to get bored really easily. So here's an open question: should we add a chest locking plugin to the server? With the extreme lack of players, I personally feel like you should be able to protect your items since there is no one around to protect them otherwise. Let me know what you think.

Hi everyone!

It's been a great first weeks on the new world. Lots of awesome towns, big and small, have appeared all over the world. We've had some pretty fun fights too. As was promised, a trading plugin is coming. It's not ChestShop.

I give you: SWAGMarket. Short for Simple Widespread Anonymous Gold Market. This market system has been made from scratch to provide what we believe is the best system for the server.

All of the info you might need related to this new plugin can be found in the Guide to Trading. It's a really short read, promise!

The initial markets that town leaders can open are Stone Market and Wood Market. More markets will be added with regular intervals.

Let us know what type of items you want to see a market for next!

The current one has been up since March. It's mostly untouched, but here are some reasons why people want the map reset:

The map has been griefed a lot near the center (old spawn)

There's a very limited amount of horses and horse armor since most of the map was generated in 1.5

I'm not happy with what my town looks like, and want to start over

As the server is now being developed more actively, it would be more fair to reset the map for the new players.

The poll will be open for 48 hours.
In order to get the map reset, a supermajority of votes for "yes" is required.

The server that Kiwike was running off was attacked last weekend. Massive DDoS attacked directed at a DayZ server whose website I'm hosting. So Kiwike went down. I've already written about the disaster that was on a different website, so I'll just leave it at that.

Then I was changing some domain settings to protect it from further downtime and such. I registered kiwike.se on cloudflare. The problem is, I found this hilarious chrome extension on reddit called Cloud To Butt. So of course I've been using this on my browser. Problem is, it replaced cloudflare with buttflare. I did not notice this as I copied the domain settings. So the kiwike.se nameserver was configured as blabla.buttflare.com. Then I had to leave because vacation. Then I didn't notice the error until I came back today. Lol. Sorry if anyone cried a tear while Kiwike was down. I'll work on getting the Minecraft server back up asap.

Hi everyone. We will be removing Towny from the Minecraft server tomorrow. Don't worry though, Territories will replace it. I have made some modifications to Territories so the move should be pretty smooth.

What won't change

Town chunks stay the same

Town money stays the same

Town leader stays the same
What will change

Assistants will be reset since Territories uses a different permissions system

Outposts will not transfer (not sure if anyone has an outpost though)

Chests/furnaces/etc are not protected anymore! Make a blocked off room or something if you want them to be safe!

Good to move now while there aren't many towns around
I expect that we will be making the move tomorrow. So if you have a plot or something and you don't want stuff stolen you have some time to move/hide it now!

Hello lovely people. Some of you may have noticed, Kiwike is sort of getting back on track again. This server started out very small and inactive but a few people eventually started playing on it. So far me and DjFuzz have been in control of where this server is going but I think it would be nice to have some more people on board.

My vision of this server

Small friendly place

Basic, vanilla minecraft; the community makes the server interesting

No long term secret planning behind doors and big opening. Everything is public and openly discussed amongst the community.

We gradually add new features and change things as required

Not really a lot of actual moderation of the server, community takes care of itself

Disabled end because enderballs are OP

No teleportation commands whatsoever. /home and /town spawn are OP.

Essentially, the server is very open and people can make what they want of it. Want to raid and fight? Go right ahead. Want to roleplay? Sure. Build awesome big towns for anyone to join? Works too.

But yeah, need more people helping out with shaping it and stuffs. At some point we will probably need to advertise it places and help with that kind of stuff would be appreciated. Make a reply or something if you want to help out.
