RE: Radios (it's probably not what you think) - Smythie - 07-30-2012 Radios? How absurd, I shall return to my flying ship away from all this madness. RE: Radios (it's probably not what you think) - chipmonk0155 - 07-30-2012 Quote:Whoa. Chill. To that, I say this: Well Gecko, when you put it that way yes, that is a quite sane idea. Why can't we just use our "imagination" for the radios to work, who said it had to be voice transmitting? Maybe it's more of a telegraph system that transmits from the power of our imagination! I also don't think that there really is such thing as "Medieval Steampunk." It's mostly based on science fiction. As Wikipedia states, "Steampunk is a genre that originated during the 1980s and early 1990s and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, horror, and speculative fiction." So almost anything is possible. When you think about it, radios are small, hand held devices, and the ships are well, ships. So of course they're going to be huge. How does this not make any sense to all of you? If it doesn't make any sense to have a giant floating ship then why have it? Not like you're all going for "realism" on here is it? Also, why make such a big deal of meta-gaming? Almost everyone on the server is doing it (the mods are very aware of it)and could give less then two shits. Since we're on the subject, what about the "/msg player" thing? I'm pretty sure that could be considered meta gaming as well. Fuck your logic! :D RE: Radios (it's probably not what you think) - spenboy - 07-30-2012 ![]() but if you really want radios, doesn't evryone just /msg? you are basically asking people to pay, to /msg also, quick question for the mods. when 1.3 comes out, and theres books, we're still going to have /letter, right? RE: Radios (it's probably not what you think) - Crashlander04 - 07-30-2012 Off topic, but I felt this is a good enough place to add on. While the idea of radio is idiotic for this server, chipmonk has a point about the problem of metagaming. It generally ruins the possibilities of RP for the sake of all real character progression when characters are making judgements based off their knowledge outside of their character. It's one thing to talk in parentheses, but to simply give everybody information through skype or teamspeak and have all allied characters know, is no fun for the sake of RP." Say nobody has warned their fellow citizens about a murderer in game (not even on a message board), but told them over skype to avoid (for an example) lordgodfrey. Then, godfrey, who RP's as a murderer, can never so much as trick an unsuspecting citizen again - and probably never even go in a town without being KOS by the whole town. This lack of role-played communication generally kills the point of the server (not just in violent examples). I won't say I'm not guilty myself, as chipmonk implied, EVERYBODY, even staff metagame pretty often. There needs to be a set rule, more definitive procedure/guidelines, regulations, and applicable limitations to ensure a fair game for everybody. The use of RP on the forum, /msg in game, and the use of local range /msg or voice chat need to be outlined. Without any of this RP regulation, we are pretty much playing on Kiwike 2.0 with nicknames and exaggeration.
