Since my name's been somehow brought into this, I'll correct this misconception: The road was being removed by Finn due to the correlation in the character's mind of the road and the raids on the settlement that he nominally leads. Me, the player, allowed this IC action to happen because it doesn't contradict the rules. There are other IC things that I don't have my character perform because they violate the rules. The ruin of the tree temple and associated signs are also tied to this. It wouldn't be a staggered ruin if it was my attempt to remove my work, it simply wouldn't be there. There wouldn't have been an IC RP and discussion about the process. It wouldn't have occurred during a peak play time, either. Think about it a bit. If you really want to talk reasoning, we can get into your character/player blurring of motivation for killing my character while in the process of doing so. I enjoyed all the RP that came out of the whole thing, and hope others did too, so I see little point in that. It was a good RP experience and driven by in game events and, by and large, well handled by most everyone and satisfactorily resolved. That's a win to me. Short version: ask me my character's motivations if you want to know them. Don't assume. This all raises really interesting questions about block ownership, particularly in light of the lack of any true cities or towns in this Age. I don't think there can be any clear cut rules at this stage and that things will be case by case, and probably should be that way. I think it mostly falls to the "don't be a douche" rules which you could argue was being broken with respect to the road. I honestly didn't know it was being used by others at that stage and likely wouldn't have begun its removal had I known as that tips thing in terms of "ownership" in my mind. |
