Just a warning, if you're planning on playing with other people, it's best to allocate one certain character for just playing with that person(s). The way Borderlands 1 & 2 are designed makes the completed missions mechanic rather buggy to work with if the characters you're playing with aren't at or near the same missions as you are. I've got two characters, and one of them I only use with my friend -- that way, we level up and complete missions at the exact same time, which is hugely important if you want to maximize your fun when you continuously play with the same person(s).
Also, make sure anyone you play with is within around 3-5 levels of you. A level 20 Vault Hunter facing level 10 enemies takes all the fun away, because he can one-hit anything, and a level 5 facing level 10 enemies will be decimated instantly and take all of his ammunition to kill one thing.
