Ouya: A slightly different take on console gaming

There's a Kickstarte hasr right now for a new gaming console known as the OUYA. It's already exceeded its goal by an astronomical amount, and it's only 3 days in. The idea behind the OUYA is cheaper development and a free to play to play model. The console is open source, and there's no licensing fees involved. There is one limitation: games must be developed with some form of f2p model, whether that be through demos or microtransactions. This is great news for cheapasses like me! It sounds awesome, but I kinda doubt them when they say it can run Minecraft and they show a video from Minecraft 1.8. I mean, it's a Tegra 3 CPU/GPU. Can't be that powerful.

Yea, it's gonna be hard for them to live up to their promises, but I'm optimistic. Even if they double the buy price, it's still pretty cheap. They might also be going on the Amazon route and selling at little to no profit.

I personaly think it looks cool. I think there will be some really unique games on it that you couldnt see on a mobile device and couldnt see on a major console.

Really all I hope it will do is put pressure on the bigger consoles to adopt some of the policies and make it possible to develop software for them, but that's probably wishful thinking.
