Because they want to get more people to buy Metro: Last Light.

Anyway Metro 2033 is a great game, go get it.

If you get the humble bundle, you can get metro 2033, and lots of other THQ games for $1. You get them as a steam code.

Metro is an awesome game. They made this campaign to promote the sequel, Last Light. The Humble THQ Bundle is a great deal too, they try to solve their financial problems with it.

I grabbed a copy to give it to someone as a Christmas present.
