So 1.8 has been released and adds a ton of new features, the next update it 1.9 and the other thread for the previous update went well so here is one for 1.9.

So, so far this is what has been said it may include:

"Nether Update / Second Part of the Adventure Update".

Finished Biome code and New Biomes

Snowy Biomes

Possible addition of Volcanoes

Possible addition of Huge Mushroom Biomes

NPCs in Villages.

Use for Experience (skills) will be added.

Animal breeding.

Increased number of Strongholds per map (from three to unlimited)

Boss Mobs in Strongholds.

New/Improved Armor system

Increased armor durability

Tool Uses for Ender Pearls.

I did a google search for "Official Minecraft 1.9 update details" and got this. Maps will have NPC villages(not including NPCs). NPCs will appear in the final release of minecraft after 1.9. Minecraft will also have uses besides long range kills with the ender pearls, and will also include animal breeding. There may be a new mob and more slime chunks. Flying in creative mode will allow you to go down now instead of just going up and side to side. Bows may have a little longer range but that has only been a rumor, and also an alternate world other than the nether, The Sky world. Notch has not really released what the portal will use, and if they might put this in due to memory capacity and server lag.
