RE: Skyrim countdown!
It costs $20 million to create a game now
The average game developer in Seattle gets paid $120,000 a year (I think, watched the video a couple weeks ago, but I'm at school so I can't watch it now)
Businesses try to make money
And the 3rd point speaks for itself

EDIT: Your edit speaks only for Sweden (They are equal price here), and 10 euros is not the majority of the cost. Also, Valve takes like 20% from Steam sales

Edit: Reading links when I get home.

RE: Skyrim countdown!
So, there are other costs in digital distribution. Even if you did it yourself. It costs quite a bit of money to keep the server up

RE: Skyrim countdown!
I sorta agree with Sir Prize. I don't buy games that I'm not too interested about and just want to try.

Read this article too http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/10/...e-pricing/

Before I got Steam, I barely ever bought a game and mostly played f2p. Since then, I have wasted way too much money on games that I haven't even launched yet Tongue

RE: Skyrim countdown!
That's actually the exact article that I base my belief that if you lower prices more will be earned on.

RE: Skyrim countdown!
Yotta, the thing is, the indie market doesn't have as much of a worry with graphics as AAA titles do

RE: Skyrim countdown!
Doesn't matter how much money they put into the game, you make more money if you lower the price since more people will consider buying the game.

I would never pay 50€ for a game that I'm not incredibly excited about (payed 45€ for portal 2 ofc), however if say, Skyrim was 30€ instead of 50...

Which is why I plan on getting it during the Steam christmas sale and just wait for now.

RE: Skyrim countdown!
Ah yes, but let's pull some real life data here.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, cost 200kr on release, semi-low budget. One of the best FPS games I have ever played in my entire life. Great graphics, good physics, excellent engine.

Starcraft 2, extremely high budget game, great graphics, great engine, great quality. Costs 420kr on release.

Call of Duty genre, now this is where shit hits the fan. 600kr on release, hasn't been inovative in years, same graphics, but slightly upgraded as they were years ago. In fact, the graphics are rather bland.

And don't even get me started on the fucking console games. So, your argument doesn't really hold here.
