If you were to use spout for this possible plug-in would you be able to change how other players see your nametag or would they see it the same way if they aren't using spout

If so, we could just make spout optional and those who use it can hide their nametags more realistically.

No, because it doesn't hide your name, it tells the client to hide others names, so everyone would have to use Spoutcraft. I hope when Spout Server and Spoutcraft are fully developed and released that it becomes required, it would add a whole new level of rp and fun.

I actually think crash is on to something. You could probably make a plugin that spout downloads to fix the names on the client so it looks like regular Minecraft. Since only spout users need it and spout with automatically download it everyone is happy!

But, you would have to force download it and that's not implemented yet. It will be though, as well as an optional addon whitelist.
