The only people I think are cool to make a living off of youtube is Smosh. Mainly because to them it is a full time job, uploading a video like they do takes a lot of work (editing, shooting, special effects, ext.), even if they're stuff may not be as good as something else out there at the time, they are still fun and entertaining to watch. And overall they do a great job. I also like their animations, even if I never watch them, they are pretty good and they got to use their youtube fame to spread it to some new animators. Plus they're hilarious regardless, mealtime with smosh and mail time with smosh are both hilarious.

A ton of people make YouTube videos as their full-time job, and Smosh is not the only good channel out there. There is a world of good content out there, from singers and animators to comedians and commentators. If you're saying the Smosh is the only YouTuber who deserves to make money, you are using YouTube wrong

In order to have a sufficient income from only youtube ads you would need like what, at least 100,000 views on every video you upload. And that's never happening unless you do something damn special and new-thinking.

Don't be mad at the guy, Yotta. If you mean that people that solely do it for the money, then I agree completely with you. But if you mean those that accept it as a full time job, and do it because they love it, then I disagree.

A lot of youtube partners talk about the same thing when they get asked questions like "How do I get big on youtube??". Besides, you can usually tell if someone is enjoying making videos or if they see it as a job.

For example, look at the yogscast's videos from 1.5 years ago compared to now. Now they're doing it as a full time job and aren't enjoying it nearly as much as they used to.

And asdf, saying smosh is the only people who deserve to make enough money to have it as a full time job is kind of ignorant. There's a lot of great youtubers out there who put a lot of effort into making good videos.

Smosh is a pretty good channel to compare to though, Anthony and Ian started making videos like the classic pokemon music video just for the fun in it, way before youtube partnership was even a thing. They kept making regular videos cause they legitimately enjoyed doing it, and they still are.

It's not wrong to try and make money off of something you like doing, it's certainly admirable to turn down a chance for profit but there is nothing wrong with taking what you're offered. I think the fact that youtube offers even pennies of their ad revenue to their posters is great, it has certainly served as encouragement for many new and great creators. We certainly wouldn't have as many great musicians or artists if there was nothing to be made in it.

A scientist may make a life saving discovery for the sake of fame and fortune. So what, does that lessen the effect of his discovery? Money is a good driving factor for innovation just be glad that it has and will encourage many more youtubers to continue and start making more and better videos.
