[The Speaker]

Friendly chatter and warmth emanate out of the bar in Mavenholm. Many of the land's denizens are gathered here for a reunion, and the relief of seeing old friends is so thick in the air that one could cut it with a knife. Then, a freezing draft of wind rushes into the bar, extinguishing all sources of light. Everyone turns and sees that the door is open, and within its frame stands a figure with a black cloak swirling around it, a hood completely obscuring its face. The hood tilts slightly upward, revealing what in the darkness appears to be a mouth. It begins to move, and a deep, raspy, booming voice fills the room, petrifying everyone within earshot.

"I will begin by stating that I am not here to socialize. Why do you sit here making idle chatter when you could be doing Kiwike a service? Hm. Well, I can't say I expected an answer. Now, listen here and listen well, for what I am about to say will radically change the lives of each and every living being in this room, and, by extent, every sentient creature in the land of Kiwike. I have come to tell you... about X.

We of X are the embodiment of the shadows, the dealers of death, those who choose who shall stay in this world... and who shall move on. We are behind you, above you, below you... and yet right before your eyes. When Kiwike's balance is shifted by a person, we are the ones who arrange their untimely demise. We are what you would call... assassins. We have deemed it time to accept others into our ranks, and this is the purpose of my coming here. If you are drawn by the deadly allure of X, here is what you will do. When I say so, everyone in this room will leave, and I will shake your hand. If you wish to join, scratch my palm when our hands meet, and we will contact you with orders concerning what to do next. Now... leave.[/i]
