The Mage Guild
HISTORY

Once upon a time, close following the dawn of magic in the lands of Kiwike, the users of magic and those who called themselves magicians and wizards were scattered. The demonstration of magic was dangerous and uncontrolled being bent to the will of many for selfish, harmful uses.

One day, three unlikely companions met and decided to finally put an end to the disarray. The three were very gifted, more so than many who were learned in magic. One was a great alchemist, one of the first to truly discover and learn the trade; another was a powerful enchanter, experienced enough to bind even the strongest of spells; but last there was a tremendous wizard, a warlock who's physical abilities (though nearly unstoppable) were not his gift. This final wizard's gift was of his past; he was the rightful heir to the ancient kingdom of Azure, the controllers of the Lapis church (a deep magical brethren before even magic itself).

These three together held to unite magic towards common good. They founded The Mage's Guild. This society, this stronghold of magicians, was lead by the third man who became known from then on in as the High Mage. The alchemist and the enchanter respectively became the first Archmages of the guild and led their own branch in the trade of their individual expertise.

The three lead mages trained, and guided magic users young and old. By expanding their forces and recruiting more mages to their cause, the guild flourished.

Eventually two more branches appeared within the guild alongside Alchemy and Enchantment; Engineering, and the Mage Guard. The Engineers built unique contraptions and clever devices using their greater intellect and magical touch, while the Mage Guards were responsible for the defense and enforcement of the guild's rule.

THE HIERARCHY

After significant time had passed, the numbers of the guild rose so steadily that all of the new recruits could not be sufficiently trained. As well, raising tensions of seniority and dominance rose among the mages. In order to combat these problems, the Archmage of Alchemy and the High Mage instituted a new hierarchy; a ranking system to help organize and revolutionize the definition of a mage.

It was decided that once a new recruit had shown interest in joining the guild, they were made pages: helpful hands around the guild. They were given the temporary task of running errands and performing small services to members of the guild. Once they had decided which branch of the guild they would enter, they would have a master mage take them as an apprentice.

After being trained to the highest possible extent, a Master mage can request his apprentice be promoted. Once the designated Archmage obliges, the apprentice is officially deemed a mage, yet a Novice mage only.

The Novice mage is then given freedom to oversee the expansion of his own knowledge, and once either a task is met, or a test is passed (both from their branch’s respective Archmage) they may be promoted to an Adept mage.

To be given the rank of a Master mage is a privilege only earned by outstanding feats and the agreement of both the High Mage and the Archmage.

Page -> Apprentice -> Novice Mage (Alchemist, Enchanter, Engineer, Guard)
Novice (Class) Mage -> Adept (Class) Mage -> Master (Class) Mage -> Archmage (successor chosen by former head of branch) -> Veteran Mage (retired Archmage)

To this day The Mage Guild welcomes all with a magical flare in their heart to join, and be learned and trained for the betterment of the land.
