The only thing I felt when reading Bilbo's book or what's it called was that everything was so predictable. He practically told the reader everything before they even happened.
There was just no mental challenge whatsoever in reading that.

And because of that book, I never read the others.
If it's predictable it's probably because you've read other books that ripped off or tried to imitate Tolkien after he became popular.
Also, how does knowing what will happen make it a bad book? I know how every book I keep in my house ends, but that doesn't stop me from re-reading and enjoying them.

No kidding; Tolkien spends the first fifteen pages of Book One just giving exposition on Hobbits--geography, history, society, temperament, etc.
