I think the xray protection is a little annoying but ultimately substantially better than having xrayers like we had under the old system. The way the system works might leave a few ore blocks ("fools gold" perhaps) but it makes xraying for things impossible since every block is valuable, much more effective than limiting xrayers to air-exposed blocks imo.
