Even simpler, use morse code. No decoders or encoders needed! Just a lever, signal and some redstone.
Oh, and redstone signals can't travel through unloaded chunks, so you can't send messages over a long distance. Shame.
That is unfortunate that you could not send messages over a long distance because of the unloaded chunks, I though it just magically worked somehow. I personally did not know that.

I was saying how you could make Times square or something like it, because this form of communication would allow for that. I was just giving examples. My writing is crap, so I am sorry, as it is very bad. You can do a lot of things with this, LCD screens, of course, do not fit the theme of our server, so that is why we could use different torches that are inverted with signs on them. For example, I am sending a message to point B from point A. When I send it, two torches will light up at point B. One will say the message, example S.O.S. We are being raided. The other will say the location, or point A. Also, could there be another way to send redstone signal over a long distance?
