Metagaming is using outside information (information in OOC on the server, or any other information except that in the RP/Lore section of the forums that isn't found out by conversations in local chat on the server) to influence you're character's actions and decisions. Don't do it.

So if a person who's new to minecraft asks how to make a bed we can't tell him on the forums or in OOC because that would be meta, as it influences his character?..

I must admit that not telling people how the game works and how to obtain basic items is a bit like not letting a player know of a beneficial rule in a p&p roleplay.
