Something that would be inspiring to see would be for the national leaders to conspire with the admins about wars and various other big events. The current system could work, but the "only conquer if surrender" system lacks any real way of enforcing a victor, and everyone abused the land claiming system to dice up the map into too-huge national super chunks.
One of my character's motivations during my more active stay was solving the apparent environmental crisis. Between the corrupted creatures and huge reasonably-seismic rifts, not to mention the numerous Nether Gates people had opened, I had aspirations of questing up gear and allies until The End. How cool would it be to unite Kiwike and tackle the Ender Dragon as a whole? Damn cool.
We need something bigger than just the Ender Dragon though.. I'd say something artificial almost, but then again, fighting the minecraft AI is pure button smashing. We need an event like this - something to force us to build our nations up.
What would be great is something like Solitude to fight - a group of players who's RP is basically to play the villain (or whichever evil RP works for Kiwike). A lot of characters play villians but sacrifice their actual goal of 'world domination' for regular lives and popularity. Face it, people like having something to work toward or against, in some way or another.
The highest player activity on the whole server was during the Solitude mischief - 45 on the day of the 'peace summit', and 30 of them were in one room for a single RP event. Nobody can deny this, nor can they deny they had a good time - yet the same people that caused this were banned for the same reasons - being relentless warmongering power-hungry warriors.
