I think VIP doors and VIP block protection both makes no sense. Everyone should be able to open doors and everyone in a particular town should be able to destroy blocks in that town. Block protection is an anti-grief feature not a "this block of dirt = unbreakable safe" feature. Switch protection was bad and I'm very glad to see it gone. What we have is still suboptimal (for example the cornerstone vault's convoluded build permission scheme) but bringing switch protection back is definitely a bad idea.

If you designed a good prison then it wouldn't need magic towny-powers to keep the building secure. Learn some redstone circuitry and make locking doors it's not that difficult to put together a sime pass-code. I agree that it looks terrible if you block people in with random dirt-blocks block protection shouldn't be manipulated to trap people in the first place. Towny destroys alot of potentially enjoyable aspects of RP on the server by fiating the impossible. If people clearly aren't about to grief a town then we should have some kind of system where they get build rights to every town (for example RobertF isn't about to grief so why should he have to deal with block-protection?) Perhaps we could add another perk for sponsors where they can have build rights in every town? Someone who gives $30 (or really even $10) to the server isn't about to grief a whole town and risk getting banned as a result.
