RE: Saving Kiwike
Roleplay is roleplay. People who care actually stay. I'm definitely staying.
All of these choices are awkward.

"Let's wipe out everything, remove that awesome RP, let all the prisoners go free, reduce the rules, remove the defense [staff], and finally make it very hard for new people to join!"

I vote no on all.
(No flame intention... I'm not even sure I can flame anonymous.)

I'd agree only with a revision to #3. I would like more complex staff in terms of ranks, yet I still like our good mod and admin friends. Smiley

RE: Saving Kiwike
It is my honest opinion that the server is dying simply because the population is letting it die. They don't find it fun anymore, and they don't seek a way to make it fun. Me? I find it fun, and when I don't, I find a way to make it fun. I just haven't been on because, to be frank, it's a lot of work setting up college, getting a job, etc.

Just keep in mind that this is the end of the school year, and it could be real life that is temporarily lowering the server population. I, for one, will be coming back within the next week or so - and I expect that, after everyone is done with final exams and getting done with school, population will boom due to the summer coming.

It's not always the servers fault. Now, if you'll excuse me - my bed is calling.
Oh - and I'd say Yes to 3, but if and only if less intrusive does not mean less capable of protecting the server. I do agree that the administration gets just a little anal about a few aspects - especially with making roleplay required (because I believe that roleplay should be heavily encouraged, and that if you force it, it becomes less fun for all).

That, and I haven't ever spammed a post with smileys before, and I'm afraid Tristy would ban me D:

"One can concentrate so closely on the words of a sentence that one thereby misses the meaning. As can happen in any area of life. You must never lose focus on the larger landscape."

Also, speaking of spoutcraft, maybe spoutcraft hates me or something, but I get an average of 30 FPS no matter what settings I use with it. I get about 300FPS with vanilla Minecraft at max settings and about 80FPS with the ultra unbelievable shaders mod installed. Does anyone have a solution? Otherwise I'm perfectly fine with "vanilla" Minecraft.

Spoutcraft isn't optimised.

Milk It's virtually unplayable! I can't imagine what it would be like if I tried to run it on my weak laptop if it's that badly optimized!

RE: Saving Kiwike
Revamped shall continue, as will the ages, I'm sorry. Although I understand where you're coming from, banned players deserved to stay banned and allowing that tiny amount to return is anything but beneficial to the server. Spoutcraft does slow things down for me and others a fair amount, but wasn't there something about Bukkit people joining Mojang and making some super duper thing that we were all excited about? I don't even know what I'm talking about, maybe others do.

And finally, we don't intend to 'fire' any of our current mods, unless they should go and deserve it. That isn't to say that we won't be accepting new staff members either, I think we have a good number as of now.

Thanks for your opinion and plausible options, but we should find better ways to increase appeal towards our server, rather than counting on veteran players that have been banned for their actions to return.

None of these suggestions help in any way at all.

RE: Saving Kiwike

I too disagree with all the options but believe we need to expand the mod team. Not so much in game as on the forums, however I do believed the mod team could stand to be, "revamped" as well, in quite a few areas. Especially considering recent events.

Be strict with these players and keep an eye on them but let them return. Jyan lead a major city, and had a large shop, he took the thieve's guild down from the inside and did a great deal for the server. Terion will just get himself rebanned and rolled back, unless he's decided he actually wants to try minecraft for a change. Pavja, although he may have xrayed, was a great influence for the server. He created a major guild, lead two towns, built a casino for people to play at, and wrote some fantastic lore. If he xrays again just ban him, but a clean slate is critical to rebuilding a broken community. NLews and Pwol likewise built a great empire in 2.0 lead many cities, were fantastic at PVP and politics and helped tons of players get started on kiwike. Their return would not destroy the server as much as it would help. Same can be said for a lot of banned players and most of the griefers aren't going to remember this server.

3) Shrink the staff and alter staff rules. A smaller less intrusive staff is critical to the server (no offense). Perhaps divide the staff into people who can tempban and people who can perma-ban or other distinctions in staff rank. Require the staff to act professionally at all times or lose their positions.

These 2 points together with the fact that you're not willing to identify yourself makes me think you're one of those banned players wanting to return.

RE: Saving Kiwike
This thread seems extremely pointless aside from stating a fact that people don't stay with games for a long time. Back when minecraft was one of like 3 games I could play on this computer, I would play it for hours on end. Now that there are more than 50 things I understand and enjoy, you think I'm going to burn hours on just one that does get boring after repeating the same tasks? Minecraft is fun, but it's not an obsession. That's why the server is dying, because people have other interests. Fun fact, the server is fine. I generally see 7+ people online at a time. That's about double what 2.0 had, if you hadn't noticed. The only time 2.0 ever had more than 10 people max was when they started that pointless Cicatrix-Helvanthar war, and when the Grand wars were going on.

RE: Saving Kiwike
Incoming rant on all these threads from my perspective
While I realize there has been a dip in server activity recently, I believe calling it "death of the server" is just being dramatic.

A whole lot of the player base is 13-19 years old. Like, a lot. That means everyone is pretty much dealing with exams, finals, graduations, finding jobs or whatever. People have more interests than just Minecraft and in many cases, playing on Kiwike is not your highest priority. I know this because I'm in that same spot. A couple of weeks ago there was just so much going on, I decided I would try and just take a break from Kiwike. After 1.5 years of running the server, taking a first real break feels pretty great. Anyone who has worked on a large project would know that feel.
I know, may not have timed it perfectly considering the postponed release of age 2 and general activity in the community but oh well. Expect a huge increase in activity from my side at least in a week or so.

TL;dr me and spammuff are having a baby and he will be the third admin

And sit on the iron throne.
