If you have your town walls near the border, you can easily defend the area. Maybe you can prepare cannons and stuff next to the siege chunk even.
Edit: 4000 posts? Dayum.
I already made a design for the cannon and planned out the spacing on the walls.

RE: Possible future siege mechanics on Kiwike
Hey Yotta, I like this a lot. Only problem I have is that the attackers are defending and the defenders attacking. Instead, I would suggest that you change requirements for towns to include a monument in the center (Adding a sense of importance and cultural-er-ness to it, in addition to the same seige mechanic.)
This can kind of imitate the way seiges work in Mount & Blade, where the attackers have to take the walls and the defenders have to defend them. Maybe instead of a monument in the seige square being spawned, seige engines or cannons (e.g. something to help breach the walls.) Perhaps they could even be pushed to the walls via a plugin similar to kiwiships. Or maybe that's just too ambitious.
I often have trouble getting across my thoughts through text, so if you want any clarification hit me up.
Other than that, great work so far. Looking forward to seeing how things will turn out.
EDIT: This only works for towns, not empty claimed squares.

RE: Possible future siege mechanics on Kiwike
We thought of that as well. The problem is that, the current reward for winning a siege is that you get to break blocks in the defeated town for some time.
With the towns having a monument to defend, you would have to let the attackers break blocks in the town during the siege. Then the reward is not even necessary. Instead of going for the monument, they would break into chests and steal stuff. You would just get people "sieging" another town, when in fact they're just sacking it. Something that should indeed happen after the siege, as with the current mechanic.
I agree, it doesn't really make sense in the way attackers defend the monument and defenders attack, but I feel like it would work much better.

Is there a way through worldguard to set the monument to a different permission set?

RE: Possible future siege mechanics on Kiwike
Well.. there's always ways around that. Say the town people build a large wall around it, or a moat of lava. The enemy can't build in the town, so the monument just sits there, unreachable.

RE: Possible future siege mechanics on Kiwike
We want to keep admin interactions down to a minimum so it's not limited by the presence and laziness of the staff.
There isn't a need for admins to place it in an accessible spot. The person who initiates the siege decides the spot. As it is next to the town borders, it should be accessible.

RE: Possible future siege mechanics on Kiwike
So the monument would give the attackers the power to break blocks in towns but they can't place blocks around it to fortify it. To me it seems like going to war with a tank except it has no armor, only a cannon.
Perhaps it is possible to design this in a way that the attackers can build some forms of defense around it, but disallow some blocks like obsidian or other hard to get past blocks. On top of that you could set a max amount of blocks the attackers can use, and maybe allowing them to increase the number with an upgrade, or letting attackers buy specific blocks as single use purchases (limited of course).
Also, does this server have kiwiships? Because that could be fun to use with this system.
Just giving some ideas, do with em what you want.

Oh, I probably didn't make myself clear enough. The attackers CAN build in the siege chunk, just not right next to the monument. Like attacks have been in the past, eg. battle at the grand mansion, the attacking city sets up a little outpost next to the town border. they can build a fort in that chunk. Which they are also supposed to do unless they're stupid.
I don't like the idea of letting people spawn in blocks or items in any way. Core of the server is to keep stuff close to vanilla.
KiwiShips have been abandoned long ago, they were too messy and laggy unfortunately.
