The Nametag Debate

RE: The Nametag Debate
The final decision by the staff is to allow the usage of nameplates through blocks and such because for one, it's a part of vanilla Minecraft and the built in counter to it is sneaking, two, because going against it would be much too tedious and it would be easy for one to make an excuse, saying they weren't really using the nameplates, and finally because it'd work to allow one to acknowledge the existence of this person near them without truly identifying them. With that, everything would stay enforceable from a Moderator's standpoint, and would allow for Minecraft to stay Minecraft.

Since it is in Minecraft, I don't really feel the need to post this in the rules, as one would generally do this anyways.

If you could get a plugin for that, then I would say definitely go for it. But if it would just be a rule, then I don't see any plausible way of enforcing that rule. People would break it unconsciously if not intentionally.

Hmmm perhaps a plugin that makes the nameplate only show when you put the cross hairs upon the player's actual body. Not through a wall, and this would prevent people from pretending to be somebody else.

I've played on servers where custom Spoutcraft launchers were required to play. Playerbase was low, but much fun was had Laugh

I would suspect the same sort of thing would happen - not sure if the pros outweigh the cons, or vice versa.
