RE: Suggestion: Smart Moving
Oh hey, just saying, to the whole "people who can't install mods are lazy" thing, I personally have trouble with mods in all ways because for some reason my .jar file is f*cked up and even when I force update or re-install minecraft it won't reset. I installed aether a while back, first and only mod and it killed itself eventually.

This is all the random garbage cluttering JUST MY %appdata% folder.
ok, couldn't get a pic, but I had 56 (!!!) class files in that folder. 56! WTF!

OH MY GOD 967 CLASS FILES IN MY JAR WTF IS GOING ON HERE??!

While you may have a legitimate problem, it's not just a "oh sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't" kind of thing. There's always a reason, it just takes a minute to find out why.

I went in and deleted every single aether file remaining, hopefully it's slightly less decimated in there than it has been...

RE: Suggestion: Smart Moving
Doggy, you could just delete the .jar altogether, minecraft will clean install a new one.

RE: Suggestion: Smart Moving
Delete the entire .minecraft folder, except your save files. Voila!

I wish I was an insane space wizard.

Deleting the /bin works for me.

RE: Suggestion: Smart Moving
All three of those work but I find that mods sometimes create a ton of extra files in the .minecraft folder. So saving your screenshots, saves, and texturepacks then deleting the .minecraft folder is your best bet.

RE: Suggestion: Smart Moving
I would vehemently oppose any proposed client mods being added until the proposed system from Jeb to allow servers to install mods to users computers is implemented. At that point we can do whatever but because I have always empathised with those who cannot or cannot figure out how to install mods I would oppose this.

RE: Suggestion: Smart Moving
Wait, Jeb is going to make it where servers can install a mod on a computer?
