Anyone ever heard of anything like this?

I'm curious if anyone has ever seen or heard of anything like this, or if it's even possible with what mods are out.
(This just came to me at 1 AM, I get all sorts of ideas at this time . . . )

Basically, a custom map where the majority of the world is ocean, only small islands, and the ultimate goal is to create massive ships that you'd control via something similar to the flying-ship mod's control block. Their size may make camera control and movement difficult though. They'd be so big you could grow trees and crops, etc inside of them. Enough of everything to be self-sufficient.

Making it feasible would probably require the diving suit mod or similar for periods underwater, and there would need to be some kind of economic system to substitute for a lack of mining (I'm thinking a world that's water down to near bedrock or otherwise devoid of any large deposits of ores or dirt/cobblestone to discourage people trying to set up bases. Maybe some kind of trade ship or trade ships that wander around inside a certain area. The main currency could be via the coral mod--have some sort of item from that or a custom item made from materials in that mod.

I suppose then you could create TnT cannons and dispensers with arrows and fire spheres, etc. in them and have inter-ship warfare. You could have "small" ships for single players and larger ships for whole communities of players, those would be the serious battleships.

The more I think about it the more it sounds like EvE online, just a lot less mechanically advanced. Maybe it'd be possible to toss out the water thing entirely--just make a custom map with a really big height on it and keep people away from the Void . . .
Throw in a custom texture pack and viola, space battles!

It would be possible but some of the mods wont be working with that mod, then generating a enless ocean map would either require a special generator or just using endless of time removing chunks in mcedit

I can make some pretty extreme custom worlds pretty easily using the Terrain Control plugin for the Bukkit servers.

Perhaps the name would need to be changed: Shipcraft. Coralcraft. Wood-floating-on-water craft. Crew-suffering-from-scurvy-because-they-couldn't-afford-a-fruit-tree craft.

this sounds like a really awesome idea for a server/temporary server. Like where each team would start at a different area and must gather some wood etc to make gigantic ship utopias that they would then siege eachother with...

I think removing the ability to swim would add yet another aspcet of danger and fun to the map. XD
