New Computer Software

Hey ya'll, I ordered the parts for my budget gaming rig, they'll be here on Monday and so I'll have it put together soon after that. But I have a question, I have the hardware, but not the software. What should I get besides the ones listed below?

Operating System: Windows 8 Pro - Times are changing, and Im going to try to keep up with Windows. Plus 8 runs 5% faster than 7 in general. For less money.

Anti-Virus: BitDefender 2013 - Rather expensive, but mot highly reccommended antivirus on the interwebz.

Screen Recorder: Fraps - Good suggestion

Compressor: 7-Zip - Forgot to add

Coding API: Eclipse - For Java
Visual Studios - For Basic and the C's

Is there any other software you guys would reccomend me getting? Even if its just for fun?

Eclipse - Java IDE (A good place to start if you've ever considered coding)
Libre Office - Microsoft Office alternative
Fraps - Screen recorder
Malware Bytes - Free malware scanner with an incredible history/reputation
Super Smash Flash 2 - Google it
True Crypt - There's something strangely liberating about encrypting your homework with military grade protection
(I left out the assumed, such as Chrome/FireFox, Steam, etc)

Lol, you might wanna put down the assumed XD I recognize a lot of the things on your list, exept for the media ones. I'm used to using photoshop, hopefully I can figure out how to get White Rabbit again... so Microsoft Office doesnt come with windows 8?

I would personally recommend winrar instead of 7zip. It is more straight forward and faster and more reliable in general. Also, what parts did you get for your computer?

Windows 8 is fantastic, so good choice.

Sublime text 2 is rather amazing as a notepad replacement.
Virtualdub for free basic video editing and awesome compression.
f.lux for not having your eyes hurt in the middle of the night.

Tried using f.lux for a week.
I could not get used to a yellow Reddit.

But it's a really smart idea and I can see how some people like it. I recommend that people try it out.
