RE: PROTEST: High Taxes
I have never liked the idea of buying blocks and items from "the server". I think everything should be mined by the community. However, I want to make Kiwike more community based so I will have my lips shut on this one.

If the gold is about to run out on the map we will probably do "the purge" (with a better name ofc.) like Buxville has where the outer parts of the map is regenerated every week or so.

On the taxes, I've never been in a town so I don't really know how they work yet. I'm going to let this thread stay here for now. If a lot of people are against them I may consider removing them or altering the standard taxes.

RE: PROTEST: High Taxes
The thing is tho if the 5g per day tax is just going to the server but the server doesnt have a shop to buy items from players, then the gold is lost forever. I think it needs to recirculate and if that was the case and we had a server shop buying say 500 cobble for 1 gold, then the 5g per day tax wouldnt really be that much of a problem.

RE: PROTEST: High Taxes
That does raise an interesting point.

Hypothetically, let say there are 10 towns. At 5g a day for Town taxes that is 50gold. That 50g, instead of disappearing in the Void, is divided up into 5 vendor Npc's in Mavenholm. For that day, people could travel to Mavenholm and click on the NPC. The NPC would tell them what he is buying today. (i'm pretty sure there are programmable quest givers and these could be modified to become the Vendors.)

"Hello, stranger. My shop is running low on Paper. I will pay you 2 gold for 1 stack of paper."

Player returns to the Vendor and receives his reward. If all the Taxable money has been given out, for that day.

"Ah, I am in no need of any wares today."

The money could roll over if noone completes the tasks. This will increase Traffic to Mavenholm, actually encourage people to compete for the gold. At the same time creating a hub for Rp, recruiting and trade.

I could easily come up with the different variable and things he would say and require.

It would also keep the mined gold in circulation.

These two come to mind.

RE: PROTEST: High Taxes
Excellent idea, Kubrick. That and the new war plugin would make Kiwike complete.

That would be wonderful Kubrick. Great idea!

Problem is, Towny is using iConomy to take away money and that would require a lot of modification.... Probably a new plugin that hooks into iConomy and modify Towny to hook into that plugin. I'm pretty sure it could be done but it's kind of a lot of work :p

I disagree with getting rid of taxes or recirculating the money through the system. Assuming the map continues to gradually expand or the outer edges are "purged", then you HAVE to have a money sink and thats what taxes are for. Best solution? Make users who have blocks placed inside a city pay taxes to the city... maybe 5 gold a week or something like that.

They're not taxes, rather what towny calls them "Upkeep fees".

You have to agree that if a nation truly wants to stay a nation, they in some way need to pay for maintenance. That's where that comes from.

That's right but I think 5 gold per day is too much (remember real life) and as already mentioned once you payed the fee the gold is gone forever. There should be at least an economical cycle. There are plenty ways to do this.

Sure, sure. I like the idea of recirculating it all.

RE: PROTEST: High Taxes
Heres what i would like to know.
Purging, Does that get rid of So to say, any towns? Cause my town is fairly far away from Mav, and i would not be happy for it, or my mine to be gone.

On the other hand.
Recirculating it is a wonderful idea, but the problem is, the time zones. From what i'm aware of, Most of the plugins go by Yottabyte's time zone. This means, i could be dead asleep in the middle of the Night my time zone, when it is 1pm where he is. That means all those in his timezone, or those that are earlier than mine, get to do the quest before others, getting rid of the gold that the npc's have. So for those in the Eastern time zone, or Pacific time zone, etc, are kinda getting the blunt end of this.

Taxes, are a part of the game, if there where not taxes it would be of no use for towns to have a town bank, and so on. I mean yes, they might need to buy resources from other players, but how often will that happen, same goes with the nation bank. Taxes are a role-playing feature, but it would be nice to choose a Weekly tax, rather than Daily.
