I was told Notch was so thankful for the earlier support whoever bought it in beta would never have to pay money for anything minecraft-related ever again :[
If you bought before Beta, you get everything in the future for free. Expansions, full version etc.
If you bought during Beta, you still get the full game. However, you don't get expansions and such. Notch did this because his lawyers didn't like the way it was. You will still get the full game and all future updates.

Hmmm, i never thought that Mojang would release DLC's. I'm pretty sure indie-developers usually dont.
But then again, Notch have been more successful than most others.
