ChipIn for a server upgrade!

(Take a few secs to stare at the epic collage)
From the recent blog post:

Hi thar folks! After a month of lag complaints and crash issues, we've gotten around to looking at a solution. We are planning on upgrading the server to our hosts next "package". This would be a really huge hardware upgrade.

With this new hardware, I'm sure we can support 60-70 players without lag. Probably more. However, nothing is free! This server upgrade would cost a one time setup fee of 149€ or $210 (and ofc. the monthly cost, same as old server). I know this is a pretty big number and our current budget can't afford paying for this. That's why we decided to do a ChipIn. Everyone can donate toward the server upgrade, every dollar counts. We don't really have a deadline on this, but the sooner we can afford an upgrade, the less lag. Please do check if you have some spare dollars in your paypal account Smiley

GO TO THE BLOG POST TO CHIP IN

If you are interested in hardware specs:

Current server
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
  • 4GB DDRII RAM
  • 2x 400 GB SATA HDD (Software RAID-1)
Server after upgrade
  • Intel® Core™ i7-920 Quadcore
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
  • 2 x 750 GB SATA-II HDD (Software RAID-1)

But will these donations also count as normal donations?

Yes, however it is a bit more complicated than using the form on the donate page. If you've chipped in you can send yottabyte a PM on the forums with some donation details (email, last name, time?) just so we can confirm the donation and give you your rank.

Please note that we will still need money for the monthly server cost and we still prior those donations. We currently have enough money to pay the server for another couple of months without any problem but after that it would be hard!

Thanks!

You know, if it was as simple as sending a $20 bill, you'd have my donation... I don't have a PayPal account (because I have no credit card). Is there some type of card that you can buy at a gas station that doesn't require a credit card?

Vanilla Visa gift-cards work fine with paypal. There is a $5 activation fee so Internet money is slightly more expensive, but other than that they are great and convenient.

I heard that the meter wasn't 100% accurate.. is that true? I've heard that we can add another 40 to that, at least.

The ChipIn meter isn't accurate, no. I'm removing that anyway, it's better donating through the normal donation page.

Okay, thanks. Was just wondering that.
