KiwiShips
Alright. Now I don't know anything at all about the plugin that This server uses for the ships, I don't know if Yotta controls the setting on it or something. I just personally feel it needs a little "buff" 3000 gold for a license which isn't just a one time payment, for something which is quite frankly terrible. It took me around 30-40 minutes to travel the same distance that it took my friend to travel in about 3 minutes in a boat. People say it's good for transporting, it really isn't. ( A single block every 3 seconds? And that's with minimal design.) You can just make multiple trips far quicker than you can take a kiwiship. Anyone remember minecarts? You can put chests in those too! They're plenty quicker than the kiwiships. I just feel for the amount of time you have to spend getting the money for the ship license, it really is not worth it at all. Once again, I know very little of the plugin so I don't know if this can even be changed but if it can..just a suggestion. (Tl;dr - Kiwiships are slow as balls and are not worth the money imo )

RE: KiwiShips
Many times, all the way back to when the ships were first released in August of last year, have people been wanting faster ships. This unfortunately is not possible for a few reasons:
- Block removal/placement: All the blocks and their data has to be stored temporarily every time a ship moves, which means more memory and CPU usage
- Chunk updates: Every time a ship moves, all the blocks moving have to be sent to the players in the area which means heavier CPU load and also much more bandwidth usage
- Lighting calculations: When blocks in the sky are moved, the server has to calculate the light changes on the ground below. This can be pretty heavy on the CPU, especially with larger ships.
This is why smaller ships move faster, since they put much less load on the server. Even with the slower ships, having 10 or so big ships fly around the server can cause quite a bit of TPS drop. Ship licenses are expensive because we do not want the average player to fly around in a big ship. We wish to keep the amount of ships moving at once down at a low number in order to be able to support more players on the server and a lag free environment for everyone.

RE: KiwiShips
Kiwiships are for reaching your flying castle without needing to make your own means of ascent.
Otherwise I wouldn't use them.

RE: KiwiShips
Like yotta said, the price is to discourage players that won't stay long from making KiwiShips and then abandoning them. The case is probably different now, seeing as how we have the application process.

RE: KiwiShips
Just wondering, considering the size of the server upgrade, will KiwiShips be improved at all speed/loadwise?

Probably not. Not by a significant amount at least.

RE: KiwiShips
Whenever Bukkit gets around to fully integrating into MC (as I understand it that's what's happening) do you know of any mods that could solve this issue or introduce an appealing alternative?

RE: KiwiShips
I'm sure the modding API will allow for a much better solution, yes.
