XP is a great thing in Minecraft and we all love our enchantments. Today I wanted to chop down a whole load of trees, so I made me a diamond axe and thought I would get me an enchantment on it. The simple thing that is chopping down trees turned into a huge quest. First I had to trek over to our zombie xp grinder and afk there for a while, kill off the zombies, rinse and repeat. Finally I was level 40 and enchanted the axe, then I could go and chop those trees.

This made me think, is this really what we want to do? Sit around in an xp grinder every time we want enchanted tools? I for one do not want to do that. So why can't we get xp from other work? I'm thinking like from chopping trees or mining stone. Those things that you often don't enjoy doing. We could make it drop a few orbs of XP randomly when you do that.

tl;dr Get XP from other boring tasks like chopping wood or mining instead of making XP grinders.

I'd say naw, because it's exactly that boredom (and sometimes difficulty) you get with an XP grinder that makes well-enchanted armour somewhat scarce.

As cool as it would be to gain XP from other tasks, I feel as though this is simply a far to easy for somebody to get Protection 4 Diamond Armour, and the other OP weapons, and the exclusivity of mob grinders (ie; having to build one nearby, or travel to one you have built) makes it a bit more necessary to settle down.

tl;dr OP, Prot. 4 D-Armour for everyone.

I like the idea, but Crash makes a point.
With Prot 4 armor, you are basically a killing machine. Except of course if Giratina happened to get a hold of you.
But then again, how much EXP are we talking about from mining, etc?

It's just one of those little things so you actually have XP at most times. I usually don't have any levels if I'm not at the mob grinder. And it also makes the boring tasks a bit more fun.

btw did you ever make that devious bastard of a plugin that despawns mobs randomly in chunks around the player if they exceed a high number?
