Seeing as Minecraft is not yet finished, what do you think should be added before it is? Items? Mobs? Blocks? Transportation? Tools? If you are feeling extra inspired, go ahead and post a picture you've made of something you want to be put into the game! Here are my top 5:
1. Fish- It seems stupid that the only ocean life is squid and that you can't see fish to know where to cast your fishing rod. Adding these would also make the oceans lively, rather than dull expanses of blue.
2. Coral Blocks- To further decorate the oceans, coral blocks should spawn in clusters. They could be harvested easily by hand, and if placed in water, they would spawn a new coral block attached to them twice a day. Outside of water, it would be difficult to break, requiring either a pickaxe for a quick break or a hand for a longer harvest. Coral would naturally appear in a variety of colors, but could not be dyed.
3. Achievements- Whether it be walking for 5 miles in shoes ("These Boots Were Made For Walking") or sleeping in a bed underwater ("Sleepin' with the Fishes"), completing achievements would make the game have a sort of goal. Maybe the player would even be rewarded with items for completing them.
4. Jetpack- Minecraft is in dire need of some way to allow the player to fly. A helicopter would be too large, a plane would not handle well, and a hovercraft would be wildly out of place, so a jetpack is really the only option. The recipe:
(I=iron, C=coal,F=Flint and steel)
III
IFI
C C
Holding space would make it rise, and shift would make it fall. It would make the player move at 1.5 times his/her normal speed. Once it reaches the top layer, it would simply stop rising.
5. Multiplayer Enhancements-
a. Singleplayer-Multiplayer switch- Players would be able to go to the options menu in-game and turn on multiplayer, and another button that would appear after turning this on allowing the player to change the server from public to private and back.
b. Invites- Once multiplayer is turned on in this fashion, one should be able to invite friends by simply typing in their username. Alternatively, they could use...
c. A Friends List- A page that could be accessed both in-game and at the home screen allowing the player to see if his/her friends are online, if they're playing singleplayer or multiplayer, chat with them, and have access to their...
d. Profile Page- A fully customizable window that could be accessed through the home screen displaying the player's avatar (in 3-D), pictures of their greatest accomplishments, buttons allowing one to download any of their worlds, and their bio. The player could change the font and background of his/her profile page, as well as privacy settings.
e. In-game Server List- A list of all the servers in the game. There would be up to three buttons next to the name of each server. One would take the player to that server's profile page, one would have the player join the server, and a third would appear if the server had a whitelist with a link to the whitelist application. Also, if the server has a website, clicking on its name would take you to it. Also, each server would choose to be on the list or not. Servers could be sorted by name, popularity, and...
f. Server Ratings- After playing on a server, players would be given the chance to rate the server out of 5.
That was certainly a mouthful. Maybe I should send that to Notch...
