Tripwire Rules
So, tripwires will be coming in 1.3, and I was thinking...
What happens when a theif is walking down a corridor in a town, and spots a tripwire in front of them?
They can't walk through it, that'd be stupid.
They can't break it, the town has protection.
Even so, it'd be griefing.
So I have a suggestion. Add tripwires to the list of griefable blocks, and make it so that outsiders are able to break them if they spot them in a protected area.
It would be unfair to make tripwires an unavoidable obstacle.

RE: Tripwire Rules
Honestly, what on earth could you make that would be able to kill you just from a trip wire?
Lava falls? 1. Has decent armor or anti fire potions (for getting out, generally lava takes forever, I think you could get across the wire before it effects you or anyone.)
Arrows from dispenser? Those suck. One arrow shot at you? That wont do anything if you have any type of armor on, and you could survive that without armor as well, even from a few shots.
Fire charge? Again. Anti fire potion, or just wait it out. It wont kill you unless you are already damaged.
Potions could hurt you and even kill you if you had a few that shot out damage potions, but I think you would be in range to take the potions from the dispenser before you actually activated it.
If you dont see it, the action would be a surprise, if you do, just take the risk of going across it, you will likely be able to survive.
I dont think there needs to be any rules like this.

You're not very creative -.- There are many things that could kill you, it puts out a redstone current! You can do virtually anything with redstone! I also think it would be a good idea to make tripwires greifable, it would undoubtedly be realistic.

RE: Tripwire Rules
I agree with bvc, a tripwire can cause the walls to crush you, open a hole under you, trap you and release water, your armor or potions wont help there asdf, and breaking them is realistic, not the metal part, but the string.

I think you need shears to break them or something, though...

RE: Tripwire Rules
There are more lethal less visible traps than trip wires. They won't have a significant impact on game play imo and I don't think they should be griefable. Okay, imagine a scenario where you are walking down a hall and you see pressure plates on the floor, should you be allowed to grief those? I personally don't think so. What's the difference between a pressure plate and a trip wire really, I probably have more wood and stone than string so I'd rather you broke those honestly.
