Suggestion/Poll: Mob Griefing

Suggestion/Poll: Mob Griefing
Mob Griefing

I would like to propose a rule that makes mob griefing on mobs that yield no drops, or benefit to said player killing them.

Now, what mobs fall under this category? Currently, only a few mobs do. This include Cats and Villagers. Wolfs should not be put under this category as they can be used in fights.

I propose this in the fact that since this is a PvP server, we don't want to knock down the players so much as they can't get back up. Raiding will happen on a frequent basis, and what stops the raiders from just being "dicks". IE. Raiders come in, raiders kill all cats and villagers. Player then has to either find two more villagers to begin re-population, which then might be cut short with another raid, and also go get two more cats.

Both of these mobs, and maybe more in future updates, have no drops, or useful gain.

How about we just make it so you can't hurt villagers/cats in protected town areas if you're not in the town?

I concur. Cept cats should die. They serve no purpose but to sit on stuff and scare away creepers. If you'd don't want to lose them, hide a pair and mass breed. On the other hand, you can't bury villagers and force them to copulate. They should be saved.

Both of these mobs, and maybe more in future updates, have no drops, or useful gain.

Neither cats nor villagers are vital in the revival of basic MC survival. Villagers are a mere luxury.

Cats, of course, contribute nothing (if not solely for decoration) which of course supports your point that nothing is gained by raiders from killing them.

Villagers however, arguably contribute more than livestock animals would - in terms of profit and luxury. While nothing is physically gained from the killing of villagers under enemy possession, there is a metaphysical gain in which that your enemy no longer has that source of profit. Much the same as killing an enemy while they are building - disrupting progress and luxury are gains as an enemy in a conflict. In order to achieve a victory, one side must fall casualty to the overpowering of another.

Not to mention, in addition to easy profit for such private towns and banks, villagers give an enemy access to otherwise more difficult materials to acquire.

In making villagers an indestructible resource of wealth, the economy shall be inevitably inflated as well. Contest for this source of emeralds, especially in this precarious environment for them, is what makes emeralds so valuable. Even with taxes on towns, (which I am a large advocate of) this would still be too great of a supply to ever even caution the failure of a town.

Without an aspect of RP, and no way to hurt your opponents' odds of success this may ultimately lead to a stagnant server in which nobody needs to be active in order to assure their safety and security.

[My two cents - please actually consider this - maybe even reread it - before going 'Crash ur an asshole u just want2 rade on a Pvp servar & ruin our experience']

Also, it should be remembered that this server was made for more prominent PvP and SMP - which does constitute that people will conflict and that there will be casualties of many players. Nerfing other player's ability to hurt the luxury of your gameplay is hardly an aspect of survival or PvP. This is a game for a reason. If everybody had to be nice in everything they do on minecraft there would not be PvP - there would be a large arena for any and all fighting and everybody would share all resources.

TLGrinR - Player versus Player means more than physical combat.

And that is a good point, and I did think of that, but I still proposed this on these grounds.

The server is a mixmatch of timezones. When I start school, Yottabyte might be getting out of school, etc, etc. Since school just started for the majority of us, how are we going to defend said villagers, etc, from offline raiding/attacks. Its not like we have a choice wether or not we can do so.
