The Future of the PVP server.
Hello everybody.
This post is sort of a continuation from Dr_Vesalius's open debate , and I would just like to highlight some stuff and go on to talk about this long standing issue. I am not concerned about Kiwike continuing. I know that the RP server is going to be infact quite popular , from plans that I've heard from geckosquid himself they truly do sound quite epic.
However , The PVP server as of recently is plain dead. With the only active players really being myself , Pwolbart and Sethd and Dr_V. And I'm concerned that everyone is going to leave for the RP server and this server will shut down if stagnation in activity and improvement keeps going this way. The truth of the matter is , the server released before anything had actually been done. And when after two weeks people realized there was nothing to do and they got bored , the spawn wasn't finished , most of the plugins were not added at that time. And now there's promises for things to be added which will spark activity , all of which are not even happening.
Some people may argue that it's because we're not seeing anybody new around here , I assure you this is not the case - the case is that once you join the world there's nothing to immerse you into it. There's no players online and nothing to do or no clear path to follow. This was a serious problem in Revamped as-well , There was simply nothing to do especially as a newbie. Let's be honest here. Everyone joins their certain groups. Everyone sticks to their groups. There was are towns built around the spawn area to explore and nothing to venture to. No set goal in any aspect whatsoever and as a result this immediately repels new players from the server. The most recent 'ACTIVE' new player we've encountered is Dr_Vesalius. And that's about it.
Let's give an example ; recently a group of Finnish people joined the server. About four. And the first thing they ask me is what do we do on this server. And it's like. Wow. This server needs guidelines for new players. Things to do. Interesting plugins which will entertain the general community. Things that will make them stay.
And now I don't mean to fault the administration , however it seems a general sense of giving up is widely practiced within the staff. Many people might say it's school and such that's causing the inability to code (Yottabyte >_>) and the little input of ideas (Mods >_>) But it's really just that you've rushed something that takes time to create. You can't just release a server and when it goes wrong decide to make some interesting things which are going to take full months to code and plan out. I know I'm going to get shit for this , but as a person which is fairly active I believe there still is hope for the server.
People play servers for a variety of reasons , how fun it is to do so and other things. But eventually this dies out of interest. Something this server needs to incorporate into it's priorities is community based interaction. That way the people feel like a part of the server , and are more likely to play. We needs events (Player created) and such which will keep people playing and on the way meet new people and generally become more interested in the server. The problem with systematic events is that it's to repetitive and to be honest is just plain boring.
Once again I'd like to emphasis on the point of the server being rushed. Look at the RP server for example. They are planning everything carefully and are actively doing so. I believe Dr_V hit it right on the dot when he said it's to Vanilla. Think about it , there's over a thousand different servers which are exactly the same shit. Vanilla - ish. This is why we really need some creativity on this server. There needs to be output and input. You can't just keep saying oh we're going to add A and B and it takes you a century to add them (Or maybe it will never happen) It just doesn't work like that.
The idea of the server at the start was controlled PVP. The only pvp I interact now a days is just outright cold murder with no interesting factors. Nothing that matters , right now the only plus of fighting is just gear. There's no rewarding feel to it. Nothing interesting. It's just exactly like an anarchy server. In the sense of PVP.
So after all that ranting , I'm just going to say this plain and straight. Something needs to be done.
Here is a list of suggestions , which after talking with some people they suggested this
1) Close the server , Delete the map. Fix all the problems , input popular suggestions and then code everything and then release a pretty cool server which will surely rack up a lot of dedicated players. Have a fresh forum application which will surely attract attention. Or don't even have an application in the first place. Make the forum nice and interesting and have obvious guidelines. Implement goals.
2) Actually start repairing the server instead of talking but not doing anything. ^ All of that.
Keep the map and such and keep the server going.
3) Delete the server , and just ride on the hope the the RP server does amazing.
So now I ask you , what do you think fellow kiwikeians?
- I will update this if I feel it's worth the time to

Interesting.
Edit: If we were to close the server, it'd have to be for at least 3 months to even be worth it. Still trying to collect my thoughts tho. Just putting that there.

I am in the process of writing an analysis of Kiwike. I'll post in an hour or so.

Imho , it's the only way forward yottabyte.
If you do decide to shut down the server , you should make a temp map with 0 Rules.

I'd have to say one thing. If you are going to close the server, make sure it is finished before you release it. No "We will be adding Territories, or editing it later", etc. That does not draw in a crowd.

Shutting down the server would include cancelling our dedicated server. So no temp maps.

Can the administration please explain to us what their plans are?

I read that whole thing, and my only comment is that I don't stick to one group
