More lag than even I can take
I have been experiencing lag spikes of magnitude greater than the power of the second death star laser. Literally, so laggy I can't even go further than 30 meters outside the town I'm near. any suggestions here, my computer has a ton of memory and is usually fast, exception being minecraft and occasionally youtube.

Latency or fps lag?

Maybe it's a failed texture pack install. does it happen only after a login, does the menu work fine?
Have you used the MCPatcher recently, because that caused unbearable lag.. For me

RE: More lag than even I can take
I use nothing involving mods, I have a perfectly working texture pack, and I do wonder if it's latency, that's been a problem with starcraft lately for me.

RE: More lag than even I can take
I mean, what's your fps? Is it laggy when moving around and so on or is it just the normal latency lag (blocks reappearing, mobs moving choppy etc.)

RE: More lag than even I can take
My fps is around 10, and I'm still laggy as fuck. Any suggestions? My used memory stays around 20, and my allocated memory is at 50% these days. I'm somewhat near mavenholm, which likes to cause lag for people.
I'm getting chat lag, mobs don't even move, I'm stuck in one place normally. And I am really considering joining a different server if this lag doesn't stop.

10 fps is terrible. Have you always had that low fps?
The lag sounds very strange, I was on the server just a few minutes ago and there was no lag.

I normally have fps from 8 to 20. It's really odd. And sometimes I have really low fps and lag is nowhere to be found.

Doggypwn, what are the specs of your computer? I suspect that you are lacking a graphics card... That or you have bad Internet . If you haven't tried turning down the graphics and turning off smooth lighting that might also be a good idea. I believe running in full screen is easier than in a window. Also, don't run any extra proccesses in the back ground it will slow you down. Gamebooster is a great program for getting a few more FPS out of minecraft or any game. If you tell me more about your computer I might be able to give you more specific advice as I have wrestled with fps myself. The best solution is to use a better computer I finally saved up and bought a 2gen i7 laptop with Nvidia Optimus graphics and now I can run minecraft in fancy graphics and still get 60fps, even in Mavenholm.
