Kiwike bought the first server in November 2010. A lot has happened since then.

November 2010

Not very much is known about what happened on Kiwike in November. The server was only posted to a minecraft server list and it stayed in the top 5 servers for a few days thanks to the high uptime percentage. Kiwike back then didn't really have any rules, people just did what they wanted to. The moderators and admins used tools to get free items while some players just played normally.

SMP lacked a lot of things back then which is the main reason it was chaos. There was no damage, monsters weren't working properly, inventories were still client sided.

Kiwike 1.0

In December, when Notch updated Minecraft to fix most stuff, mainly the weapons and damage, Kiwike launched what is now known as 1.0. Before this, the map had changed many times and there was never a permanent map. It was the first time that Kiwike had some real rules and structure.

This is when Kiwike added a whitelist and started advertising the server on minecraftforum.net. As more people joined more content was added. The first town was Kiwitown, a small town with yottabyte as mayor. Other towns were Lepritown, Safe Area Sigma and Cloud City. By this time, the chest duplication bug was still in Minecraft, allowing people to cheat to get free items. This made the server's currency (called Kiwi back then) really unstable.

In late December yottabyte went on vacation for a week. Minecraft was just patched and hmod was not updated so the server had a temporary map for about a week. Yottabyte came home around new year and the server was quickly back on track. The town Droidopolis, created by Android24557 rose in the far northwest. By this time the map started expanding a lot and the server got laggier by the day.

On January 8th, Kiwike bought a new server. Yottabyte temporarily changed the website to an IRC chat while he was transferring everything to the new server. In this IRC it was decided that Kiwike should run temporarily on a new map until the old one had been transfered. And so a new map was launched. This was one of the most awesome moments in Kiwike. The first night with about 26 players online, everyone cooperated to survive the night. Some people collected wood while others found coal to make torches.

By this time, yottabyte had posted a vote on the forums<ref> http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=155</ref>, whether to keep the old map or start over new. The old map was cluttered with duped items and was starting to get out of control so the vote ended with 24-3.

This was also the time that the staff made Kiwike 2.0 official. A lot of people left since they didn't feel like it was worth starting on a new map when 2.0 was "around the corner" anyways.

Kiwike 1.5

Kiwike 1.5 (aka. Deep Kiwike, Pre-2.0) was the time between 1.0 and 2.0. A lot of changes were happening in the world of Minecraft servers since hMod was being rejected by the people who worked on it. The server mod of the future, bukkit was announced and left server hosts with two choices. Kiwike chose to be one of the first public Bukkit servers on the planet. Bukkit was still very new and not many plugins had been developed. The staff decided to make Kiwike a PvP, true survival server. Chaos ensued by this time. There was no block, fire or lava protection with Bukkit yet. Griefing happened daily to all surface houses.

Droidopolis had been recreated on the new map but it was quickly griefed and burned to the ground. The leaders of Droidopolis decided to move to an area more fit for griefer protection and Hidden Droidopolis was created. It was a great town with only one entrance, hidden precariously near a pond. However, like with most great towns, the location was leaked and the final result was a grief attack. By this time, less people were active on Kiwike, and things started to calm down.

There was still no whitelist plugin for Bukkit and with a thread that was never bumped on minecraftforum, Kiwike stayed like this until 2.0. The community that was left were pretty strong and knew each other well. Griefing didn't happen regularly anymore. People played like a normal, more private server. It went on like this for about a month until it was announced that 2.0 was on its way.

The new server was starting to fail by this time as well, with more plugins being added and the map expanding often. Since 2.0 was close, the staff decided to order a real dedicated server. Before this, Kiwike had always been running on a VPS. Around 8th of April the new server was here.

Kiwike 2.0

3 months after 2.0 had first been announced, a lot of waiting for Bukkit to be decent enough and Minecraft updates. Plugin coding, building of Mavenholm, fiddling around with the map generation, 2.0 was finally done. It was not really what the staff had planned by this time but they were happy with it anyway. Kiwike 2.0 launched on April 10th, 2011<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=452</ref> but a fatal error came in its way. The server was lagging to oblivion and the staff had no idea what was going on. The next day, yottabyte started a temporary server yet again to find the issue. The issue was finally found and fixed and the normal map was back again. Only two days after the server was first announced, the local player record was reached, 41 players at one time. Kiwike 2.0 was the longest version of Kiwike to exist, lasting 9 months, 1 week until finally shutting down on January 17th, 2012<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=2429</ref>

Kiwike: Revamped

After Kiwike 2.0 had been around for about 9 months, It was decided that the server needed a change, particularly in the map. So, on November 26th, 2011, Android announced Kiwike Revamped<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=2237</ref>. It was announced that Kiwike would be switching to more of it's own plugins, including Territories, Locks, KiwiNPC, and War. The closed beta began on December 13th, 2011<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=2395</ref>, and became open beta on January 26, 2012<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=2479</ref>. Activity issues became apparent late in the summer of 2012, and the requests for Revamped's successors were heard, leading to the creation of new servers. Revamped closed on October 21st, 2012, to be replaced by New Kiwike<ref> http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=4006</ref>.

Kiwike: Tekkit

Kiwike: Tekkit was a short-lived Tekkit server. It opened on August 12th, 2012<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=3811</ref>, and closed on September 14th, 2012<ref>http://kiwike.se/forum/showthread.php?tid=3961</ref>
