It just makes no sense that I should be made aware of things, long before the characters even do. And that doesn't mean I'm fine with hints. But he practically wrote "-insert object name- -insert object exact description- -insert objects functionality-" all the time.
I'm not sure we're on the same page here (no pun intended).
The Hobbit barely gives the ring Bilbo finds any significance beyond it making him invisible, are you thinking of Book One of the Lord of the Rings?
