It was an update in minecraft changing biomes up a bit, but we never had to change maps.

I think that these biome changes are more significant than the past ones, something about raising the height limit.

1.8 will include a new biome code. New land will be generated in a strange way since they have changed a lot of the terrain generation.

I doubt very much that it will break the map. There won't be a new static height limit, but afaik they are thinking of making the limit adjustable for newer maps.

I love the fact that there is going to be leveling up and maybe permadeath for the rouge effect :O
