This.

It sucks to have to go through a ravine punching all the walls while fending off monsters to get up the side and mine out that block of diamond ore that ends up not existing. And it still lacks the ability to protect the location of caves and hidden underground chests. We shouldn't be trying to stop cheaters in a way that punishes the everyday user.

Really, if an xrayer finds a room under a seemingly empty field, he isn't going to ignore it because it's filled with ore.

Well, that's unavoidable. The point is that they won't be able to mine straight to valuable blocks.

You never could.

They can't go digging into every cave, is the point.

Yes, they can. Because they still see large hole in the ground, whether it's filled with ore or not.

Here's the thing about this, though. XRayers don't care about ore, and they're just going to get new mods that look through ore, and they still win

Actually, if i understand the way this protection works.
It does not show a large hole in the ground. it would show a layer under the dirt filled with the random ores (Like shown in the screenshot) and you would not be able to see a large hole.
So yes its more effective then the older protection against things like this.

But i can see the annoyance of players. I suppose in the end it all comes down to what player wants. a better safer way to keep you're underground bases but have 'fools gold' as pavja told. or have a less effective method maybe allowing x-rayers to find big holes underground but no 'fools gold'
