Final build went with an i5 and a 770. fingers crossed for framerates, should arrive between thursday and friday.

Because it doesn't. Asdf looks at the number and thinks, "oh damn, 7 is like 40% more than 5, that means the i7 must be 40% better!!"

Look up some game performance tests. At most you'll get like 2 more fps with the i7.

Exactly what yotta said. The only thing you would want an i7 for is video rendering and other very CPU intensive tasks that hyper threading will make a big difference. You'll barely see any difference, if any, in gaming.

The 3820 is a good CPU. It's cheaper and more powerful than a lga 1155 i7, but it uses LGA 2011 so you'd need a different motherboard for it. It's basically a xeon with 4 out of the 8 cores disabled because they are malfunctioning or something.
