RE: Three year anniversary!
I really think we just need to work on keeping the community in tact. A small 2.0 like server would be nice to keep around though.

Also, Cerce, it's fuckin' awesome to see you again man.

You wot?

Guys. This server isn't a democracy. Yotta would like to keep this PvP oriented.

RE: Three year anniversary!
Actually let me clarify

I do always listen to community input and it is always very much appreciated.

But I learnt a long time ago not to run a server that I don't enjoy playing on myself. I don't really enjoy RP servers (as in the point that Revamped got to in the end), so I won't attempt to run one.

If I don't enjoy playing on a server, how can I know that the players will? It's silly. Survival with pvp aspects is my kind of server, so that's the kind of server I would host.

RP is fun, the kind of RP we had on 2.0 for example. But when everything is based around the RP like in revamped, the game gets less enjoyable imo.

The RP should be shaped by player actions, and not the other way around.

RE: Three year anniversary!
I think we need some RP in order to form motive. In kiwike revamped, because of RP, we needed to have a reason to murder people, that created fun situations, although sometimes frustration. People leave when there is no endgoal, that is a negative part of sandbox game, there needs to be a goal. The downfall of games like minecraft is that, once you have the walls and the block protection and your diamond armor, what more is there? You see this in games like Dayz and wasteland, you get the heli, you fill your inventory, now what?
For Kiwike to succeed, we need a goal, something beyond finishing your walls and you obsidian vault. Some goal that compels you to carry on. That something, can best be attained by some form of RP, which with I charge Cerce, lord of finding purpose and carrying on, to find.

RE: Three year anniversary!
Well I mean with revamped we had the desire to play because we knew that we would eventually have AGE 1 , 2 , 3 which took ages to implement - that sort of served as 'purpose'.
something simple and RP oriented like that territory system would do wonders if it can be done.
However , knowing the amount of time everyone would be willing to conceive to this , and coding seriously being a real pain in the ass I doubt it could happen. For a server to be successful it needs to have purpose from day 1 , not the entire community waiting a year till it actually happens , because this leaves room for problems to start happening and before we know it the entire server is in disarray. Of course this means that within 3 months of release the server dies.
What I'm trying to get at here is we need a new groundbreaking idea which will serve as the purpose and drive of the server , this is why in actuality the whole territories and kingdoms with the RP twist into it was nothing short of fucking genius , as the drive is created by the players. Heh , add a territory map which would update depending on whatever happens whether it be trade of land or other things and everyone will go mental , because once you give context to something such as "land" and "area" it'll become the basis for things and in a sense a drive for the server.
Of course what problems we faced regarding such ideas was what would govern the principles for it , variables will always exist and many people will go about arguing just to suit themselves (I include myself in this many) and therefore something as broad as "light pvp , heavy rp" doesn't suffice.

Yup.

Edit : If you really want something that will be enjoyable for yourself and the other 50% of the community try think outside the box , and <3 , some sense of logic from you Yotta. I like.

RE: Three year anniversary!
The object of roleplay is to /create your own goal/, and when that goal is met, to make another one for yourself. This is not always 'expansion through military might'. This is sometimes a wedding at a large castle, or a border dispute, or a great voyage of Kiwiships that ends up with half of the crew falling over into some dark swamp that have to be rescued.

Cerce had many, many goals as a character.

Then 2.0 came along.

Then Revamped came.

Finally New Kiwike came out, with the approach of 'PvP without a fuss'. And it never picked up.

Of course other things impacted the server - primarily OoC feelings towards other players. Obvious groups of friends surrounded themselves with like minded individuals, sometimes bent on causing life to be a pain for everyone outside of that group. But from what I can draw from our past here - server administration-led goals are not the answer. Players should create their own goals, and players should be the only one to make goals. Players should determine the tone of the server, be it PvP or roleplay-based, and only players. I know this isn't a democracy, but Yotta, let's face it - PvP isn't what people want, else New Kiwike wouldn't have died. Intense server administration of roleplay isn't what people want, else Kiwike Revamped wouldn't have slowly bled out. People want freedom - be it to roleplay, build, or raid. And I doubt you're going to get people to come back if you advertise a PvP-only or 'mostly' PvP server.
