RE: Suggestions from a Dying Breed of Roleplayer
^I agree with the thesis of Cerce's argument I'm returning to kiwike for a bit next week to see about reviving the knights but my guild cannot function in a boring old normal minecraft server. I used to like towny protections and those kinds of mods. In many ways I still do. They prevent greifing which is good. They also make it harder to thieve which is good for my guild (or rather was good). The purpose of the knights was to leverage undercover thieves who were ready and willing to role-play two characters in every part of kiwike. By having members with build-rights in every town people had an incentive to cooperate with eachvother within the guild and work together on raids because this meant that an individual thief could benefit from all of the wealth on the server even if they only had rights in their own town. Then people started protecting their stuff with personal plots and build rights so that they were the only ones who could open chests on a huge chunk of land, effectively adding the same kinds of locking chests that we see on every minecraft server and effectively throttling my guild. With a lack of income my guild began to break up from within, thieves saw no incentive to cooperate with each other and ultimately found it more profitable to attempt to steal from and betray the guild. We had to get town protection to protect our own stuff because we were the only ones on the server without any. The city of Coranis was effectively the death knell of the old knights. I left the server for the summer and my successor was faced with a guild full of traitors, bored and immature pre-teens and people who had never done anything to help the guild other than pay an application fee and then ask for free stuff.
I hope that the upcoming Locks&Lockpicks update will replace chest-protection in towns and give my guild a chance to be reborn, otherwise the Knights are probably not going to come back, even if I do. And I think that in many ways guilds like the Knights and the Roadbuilders are essential parts of kiwike. As guilds like these vanish from the server so do their members and having an active Thieves' guild is a major distinction between kiwike and every other minecraft server I have been a part of. The way I envisioned the guild was as an extremely hierarchical chain of advancement which required members to be dedicated and competent and stay on the server for a long time before they could advance to higher ranks and get more rights in the guild. This would solve both the quantity (people joining because there was a thieve's guild) and the quality (people being encouraged to stay and participate on the server in order to advanced). But if server modifications like towny are not restricted or counter-acted in such a way to provide a steady stream of potential income to the guild there is no way we as a guild can do anything to boost the server or even maintain its current state. The sooner it becomes possible for my guild to profit the sooner the server will be revived.
Also, on a somewhat relevant sidenote, I do still have *some* gold (500G-800G or so I would guess) so expect to see a bit of an economic influx in the next month or so when my guild gets around to purchasing supplies for our return.
